Stage 3 Environmental Assessment

Application has been made to the Department of Planning for the Stage 3 extension. The Stage 3 area consists of a single coal measure sequence of the early to late Permian Greta Coal. If the Stage 3 extension is approved Austar will extract up to 3.6 million tonnes of run of mine coal a year, which will be processed at the existing Pelton coal handling and preparation plant and taken to the port under existing approvals. This application also includes construction and operation of new pit-top facilities on mine-owned land off Quorrobolong Road south of Kitchener.

Approval of the Stage 3 Project would sustain 275 jobs at the mine.

The Stage 3 Environmental Assessment is now available for public comment until 19 December 2008.
