The Stage 2 area includes three longwall panels (A3 to A5) beneath privately held small rural residential properties at Quorrobolong. Longwall extraction uses exactly the same method as for Stage 1 using the same LTCC equipment. Approval was granted in June 2008 to modify the consent for approval to extract the maximum seam height of up to 6.5 metres. LTCC extraction commenced in February 2009.
There were no changes to the existing system of coal handling and processing for Stage 2. Coal continues to be brought to the surface by the existing underground conveyor system and transferred to the overland conveyor system to the washery near Pelton. Product coal continues to be transported primarily by rail to the Port of Newcastle.
The Statement of Environmental Effects (SoEE) that was submitted to the Department of Planning to support the request to modify the consent for longwall panels A3 to A5 can be downloaded , however, please note that some of the files are very large and may take some time.
